⚾️ Play It Forward, Prep Baseball Join Forces In Texas
The Play It Forward Roanoke Sports Complex just hit a home run.
The youth sports non-profit broke ground on a $60M facility in the Dallas suburb last fall. Now it has partnered with tournament programmer Prep Baseball in a bid to become one of the nation’s top destinations for youth baseball.
40+ weeks of annual baseball events as part of the pact
8 weeks will be dedicated to national-level tournaments
The events are expected to draw a combined 2.2M visitors annually
The 122-acre complex is expected to open later this year. A hotel and retail space will follow in 2026.
8 baseball fields
Ability to host football, softball, lacrosse and other sports
Green space and walking trails
James’ Take:
This is another example of a complex being built or proposed in a region that already has one of the major sports tourism tentpoles accounted for.
In this case: Roanoke’s official city slogan is “The Unique Dining Capital of Texas” due to its bevy of restaurants.
Many cities and towns look to youth sports to serve as economic engines for ambitious multi-use districts — perhaps too ambitious in many cases.
But this complex, which is being privately built, is more similar to recent proposals like those in Branson, Missouri, and Rapid City, South Dakota— it gets to lean into existing infrastructure rather than be asked to create it.
🇺🇸 Get Ready For The Patriot Games

High school sports will officially have a sizable role in next year’s semiquincentennial celebration, although the details remain limited.
President Donald Trump formally announced the Patriot Games last week during a speech in Iowa on plans for America’s 250th birthday.
Youth athletes from all 50 states will participate
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will spearhead the event
The event will be nationally televised
Trump said the event will “show off the best of American skill, sportsmanship and competitive spirit.”
James’ Take:
The president’s announcement was not unexpected, as the concept for Patriot Games had been previously reported.
What is a bit surprising is the lack of information on what the event will look like and how it will work.
We have many questions about logistics.
It is hard to envision high school baseball and softball teams criss-crossing the country in March Madness-style bracket competition.
An Olympics-like event that emphasizes individual competitions with limited-to-no team sports seems more likely.
There are already national-level events in track and field and sports like wrestling. And that also accounts for the various state-to-state academic calendar differences.
Our gut tells us this will either be wildly successful or a colossal flop with no in-between.
No word on whether the UFC card at the White House will be tied to Patriot Games.
🏃♂️ EM Speed and Power Looks To Scale After PE Deal
EM Speed and Power, which has two facilities in California and works with youth athletes all the way up to Olympians, announced a strategic partnership with ZT Corporate.
This collaboration will enable EM Speed and Power to scale operations, enhance its athlete development and academy programs, and invest in advanced sports performance technologies. It will also support EM’s continued efforts to provide a neutral, inclusive training environment for athletes of all backgrounds.
EM will maintain its flexible schooling program by working closely with local school districts, offering alternatives to traditional education to help student-athletes excel both academically and athletically.
The partnership will also launch new scholarship initiatives, community outreach programs and enhancements to EM’s coaching staff. Each is designed to remove barriers and create opportunities for youth in underserved communities.
⚽️ Lionel Messi’s Sports Drink Hits Youth Soccer Scene
Atletico Dallas Youth — an organization with ties to the upcoming Atletico Dallas USL expansion franchise and its planned $70M training facility — has struck a deal with the soccer icon’s hydration beverage company.
Mas+ by Messi will be the organization’s kit sponsor— its logo will be on all youth soccer team jerseys. The brand also has deals with Inter Miami FC, Messi’s club, and MLS Next.
💸 Investment Opportunity: Youth Sports AI Agent for Parents
I’m an advisor for a youth sports AI startup aiming to tackle the growing problem of the underserved parents of athletes having to juggle so many apps to exist.
TeamSnap for this
Group chats for that.
SportsEngine for that other thing we do only do two weeks per year.
Scheduling, coordination, and most importantly, communication are becoming increasingly difficult. But this product consolidates and organizes it into a centralized and simplified user experience.
It’s an AI that stays ahead of schedules, ride shares, and team updates to keep you on track.
Think what Reclaim.ai is doing for workplace productivity, or Mindtrip.ai is doing for travel, but for youth sports.
I’ve seen it in action, and it’s impressive to say the least.
The company is halfway through its pre-seed round, and is looking for strategic investors in the space to close out the round and put the product on track for a beta launch this fall.
If you’re interested, just click “yes” and I (Kyle) will make a warm introduction to the founder and CEO. Yes, please introduce me (you will receive an email within 24-48 hours if you click).
🏢 More Youth Sports Facilities News And Notes
Rochester, New York: The first phase of a proposed $65M indoor/outdoor complex is set to break ground this fall. The outdoor component will be in the initial focus — eight turf and lighted baseball/softball fields, 12 pickleball courts, two turf soccer fields, a basketball court, and a walking/running track. The fieldhouse may not break ground until 2030; that and design changes have sparked some local backlash.
Clinton, South Carolina: A land deal for a proposed multi-use development anchored by a youth sports complex has received initial approval. Plans call for 13 youth baseball fields, over 200 single-family homes, retail space, three hotels and restaurants. The developer told officials the complex is projected to host tournaments 38 weeks a year with 120 teams in each event.
Killeen, Texas: Former NBA all-star Lamar Odom announced plans to open a K-12 academy in the city. He is also reportedly going to be the subject of a reality television show about his move to the town.
👨🦰 Parents Behaving REALLY Badly
A youth baseball team from the Chicago area was kicked out of a tournament at Cooperstown All-Star Village after two of its coaches streaked naked on the field in front of kids. Yes, there is video. Yes, the coaches were fired. No, local police did not press charges.
The former treasurer of a youth sports organization in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to three years of probation after embezzling $184K. She can end probation after two years if she makes full restitution in that span.
Three youth sports coaches were among 52 arrests made in a recent prostitution sting at a spa in Erie, Pennsylvania.
