Rhode Island has became the 25th state to sanction girls flag football as a high school varsity sport.
The Rhode Island Interscholastic League announced the decision following a meeting of its principals’ committee on athletics; the RIIL said the vote was unanimous.
The first varsity season will be in the spring of 2027. The New England Patriots played a big role in the Ocean State’s push to sanction.
