A youth sports facility in Iowa is no longer for sale after its nonprofit operator prevailed in a tax dispute with local officials.
The Kettlestone Central Sports Complex in Waukee is exempt from property taxes, a Dallas County judge ruled earlier this week. The decision comes after the Iowa Youth Athletic Foundation sued to challenge the county assessor’s decision to tax on the venue.
The IYAF had threatened to close the $40M indoor complex or sell it to a for-profit company without a favorable ruling. But the organization told The Des Moines Register it will not sell after avoiding an annual projected tax bill of $500K to $1M. The IYAF operates two other facilities in the state.
Kettlestone will sit inside a $350M mixed-purpose development that is expected to generate $125M in annual economic impact.
