We asked 63 youth sports club operators a simple question: what does a typical family actually pay? The median came back at $2,900 a year per athlete. The price tag turned out to be the least interesting thing in the data. Here is the full read on time, ownership, pricing power, and whether parents really want multi-sport.
The Responses
63 club operators filled out the survey. The results should be taken as directionally accurate, but they are not statistically representative of all club participation in the US. Independent and nonprofit clubs make up about 9 of every 10 responses, and soccer and baseball lead the sports.

The middle of the market is $2,900
Half of clubs charge more than $2,900 a year, half charge less. The average runs a little higher at $3,195, pulled up by a few premium programs β 1 baseball club reported $16,800. The middle half of clubs land between about $1,100 and $4,000, which is the normal range to measure against. Hereβs the breakdown:
