Youth sports parents in the United Kingdom spend over $1.6K a year on gas to take their kids to games and practices, according to a survey by budget car maker Chery UK.

(Note: A U.S. gallon’s worth of gas is about $8.80 in the UK.)

Some other numbers from the survey:

  • Parents drive a little over 1.7K miles per year for youth sports

  • About 3.5 hours of driving time per week

  • 91% said youth sports had positive impact on their kids

  • 72% said travel time strengthened relationship with kids

Of particular note: The survey found the vast majority of UK youth sports travel is local, with most parents driving 50 miles or less for a full week of activities. It’s also worth noting that $1,600 is more than the oft-maligned $1,016 US families spend on their child’s primary sport, and in line with the $1,500-$2,000 US families spend per year per child.
